Laitmawsiang Mushrooms

In the village of Laitmawsiang, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya there is an area where mushrooms are grown and cultivated. Over here are a number of activities for anyone interested in indulging in this experience, from learning about mushroom cultivation to how they are cooked. One can also buy these mushrooms or visit different tourist spots, including the Garden of Caves Park and a heart-shaped stone site nearby or view other scenic locations around the area.

Name of the host: Kerlang Khonglam

Know your host: Kerlang Khonglam is a local entrepreneur and environmental enthusiast who hails from Ladmawsiang. He runs a food processing unit at Sohrahrim and a homestay for tourists in the Laitmawsiang area and has a hand in many other projects. He also has a Master’s in Science with a specialisation in Environmental Science. He has worked as a Research Fellow for the Conservation of Threatened Plants in the Indian Himalayan Region. Apart from this, he is also involved in tourism as a tour guide, caretaker, and tour operator.
