Laitiam is a village rich in culture and history, located in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. In this village there is a sacred grove that bears a long history and a variety of legends about the local gods and plants. A living-root bridge connects Laitiam to Shella Bolagunj which served as a means of transport for the villagers in the past. The community also supplies cane to neighbouring villages for the production of furniture and handicrafts, and a number of villagers are engaged in traditional craft production.
