Meghalaya’s largest river island and one of Asia’s biggest, formed where the Kynshi River splits into the Phanliang and Namliang – offering sand-beaches, scenic meadows, and river-splits that feel remote yet accessible.

Nongkhnum River Island lies about 14 km from the district headquarters of Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya. It is formed by the bifurcation of the Kynshi River into the Phanliang and Namliang rivers, creating an island of around 20–25 sq km. Visitors can find a sandy beach at the point of divergence, grassy meadows, a foot-suspension bridge across the river and opportunities for boating, fishing and camping amidst nature’s calm.
